This three-day programme is for those interested in becoming mentors, or already involved in mentoring. We will explore mentoring as a developmental tool, thinking about how and when it can be helpful, what the benefits are, the skills of effective mentoring and practicalities of setting up mentoring schemes. The emphasis throughout the three days will be on relating inputs to participants’ experience, and on practising key skills in small groups with feedback from experienced mentors. The lead facilitators provide theoretical inputs explaining the purpose of each aspect of the model, followed by demonstrations. Then participants work as mentor, mentee (using real issues) and observer, with facilitator support, using their own real current unresolved dilemmas and opportunities as material. We aim to create a supportive learning environment where participants can practise skills and consider the personal and practical implications of becoming a mentor.  The course aims to

  • Explore what Mentoring is and understand some of its benefits
  • Understand how to use a framework to underpin mentoring conversations
  • Develop mentor skills, using Egan’s Skilled Helper framework & experience being a mentee
  • Understand principles of safe and effective mentoring and consider practicalities of working with a mentee
  • Consider how to take mentoring forward locally & nationally

It is important that participants attend all 3 days; day 1 covers stage 1 of Egan’s model, day 2 covers stage 2 and day 3 covers stage 3.

Cancellation Policy:
Please give as much notice as possible and get in touch if you are no longer able to attend. On the day sickness we won't be able to refund as fees cover travel for our faculty.
