The Challenging Airway 'Consultant Refresher' Course is a one-day event in Northern Ireland run by experienced and enthusiastic faculty from local teaching hospitals. Lectures are complemented by small-group stations covering a wide range of skills and strategies for managing airways in both the elective and emergent setting. 5 CPD points have been awarded by the RCoA. Topics covered include: managment strategies for the difficult airway; failed intubation scenario; NAP 4; aspects of awake and asleep fibreoptic intubation (topicalisation, sedation); double lumen tubes; bronchial blockers; tracheostomy emergencies; obstetric airway; emergency cricothyoidotomy; extubation.
