Description

Scotland’s critical care recovery community is growing and evolving, yet many clinicians still report working in isolation, with varying access to resources, service models, and support. This new Scottish Intensive Care Society networking event aims to bring together colleagues from across Scotland to share experiences, strengthen collaborative working, and shape the future of recovery services.

Join us for a day of conversation, learning, and practical problem-solving as we explore how to ensure patients thrive, not just survive, after critical illness. This free event, supported by SICS, is open to all members of the multidisciplinary team involved in critical care recovery, including nurses, AHPs, doctors, psychologists, pharmacists, and colleagues working in community or third-sector services.

What to expect

Although the full programme is still being finalised, the day will include:

  • Setting the Scene - Presentation of the findings from the national survey of critical care recovery services and discussion of current strengths, gaps, and areas of unmet need across Scotland
  • Educational sessions on key topics such as:
    • Patient-reported outcomes and lived-experience data
    • Psychology and wellbeing
    • Developing and evaluating new recovery services
    • Emerging projects and best practice from across Scotland
    • Contributions from third-sector organisations supporting recovery
  • Interactive round-table sessions to allow delegates to dive deeper into priority topics such as:
    • Developing a new service and building a business case
    • Using patient diaries and lay summaries
    • Long-stay patients and ward-based rehabilitation
    • Making the most of the environment: gardens and outdoor spaces
    • Establishing an all-Scotland recovery network and improving cross-site referral
