This interactive study day is designed for Recovery Nurses, and Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs) seeking to enhance their knowledge and practical skills in the care of complex postoperative patients. The programme provides evidence-based updates on current recovery practice and focuses on key clinical challenges frequently encountered within the Post Operative Care Unit (POCU).
The day will explore the management of patients living with obesity, including the role of Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy, perioperative risk factors and strategies to optimise postoperative recovery. Delegates will also examine the impact of human factors on patient safety and performance within the perioperative environment.
A series of practical workshops will provide hands-on learning opportunities in airway management, Zoll defibrillator operation and ECG interpretation, enabling participants to develop confidence in recognising and responding to common postoperative complications and emergencies. Sessions on neurological assessment and stroke recognition will reinforce the importance of early identification and escalation of care in the recovery setting.
The study day will conclude with interactive PACU case-study discussions, allowing participants to apply theory to practice, share experiences and explore evidence-based approaches to patient management
Target Audience: Recovery Nurses, Anaesthetic Nurses, PACU Practitioners and Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs).
